Cable TV Regulation - Inside Wiring Rules Definitions
MDU Owner: Multiple Dwelling Unit property owner.
Wiring:
Cable home wiring: The FCC defined "cable home wiring" as the internal wiring contained within the premises of a subscriber which begins at a demarcation point at which a service provider's system wiring ends and the customer-controlled wiring begins, but did not include any active elements such as amplifiers, set top boxes, etc. The demarcation point was set at or about 12 inches outside where the cable wire enters the subscriber’s individual dwelling unit. In the event the demarcation point is physically inaccessible due to structural elements (drywall, brick, etc.), then the demarcation point can be further than 12 inches (molding is not considered physically inaccessible).
Home run wiring: The wiring extending from “Cable home wiring” demarcation point to the lock, drop or junction box or pedestal inside the MDU building. The riser cable is not typically considered “Home run wiring.” The riser cable typically runs vertically in a multi-story building and connects to the “Home run wiring” at a tap or multi-tap. For purposes of abandonment, passive devices, including splitters, shall be considered part of the home run wiring.
Loop-through wiring: A single cable provides services to multiple customers within an MDU or the entire MDU with each subscriber on the loop receiving the same cable service. Loop-through wiring is evaluated under the inside wiring rules the same as “Home run wiring” from the “Cable home wiring” demarcation to the tap or multi-tap riser interconnection.
Distribution wiring: All outside and inside plant not defined as under the categories above.
Dispositions:
Building by Building disposition: MDU owner terminates cable TV service for a building or multiple buildings.
Unit by Unit disposition: Subscriber or MDU owner is able to purchase Cable home wiring on a unit by unit basis.
