CAMPUS TELEVIDEO RELEASES

2011 BANDWIDTH AND INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY REPORT

Greenwich, CT Campus Televideo (www.campustelevideo.com), a leading provider of custom cable TV, data and voice services to over 220 colleges and universities nationwide, has released the results of its 2011 Bandwidth and Information Technology survey. The report discusses technology and bandwidth issues, trends and challenges as shared by higher education IT professionals across the country. For the first time this year, public universities were also invited to participate in the survey.

Among the survey’s findings:

• Keeping up with bandwidth demands continues to be a challenge; over 65% of schools have added bandwidth within the last year. One third of small, private schools report they still have inadequate bandwidth and plan to add more.

• External video is seen as the leading source of growing bandwidth demands. On average, schools believe that approx. 25% of their bandwidth is used for external video. Over 50% of participants indicated no clear solution to control these demands.

• Wireless continues to be a top priority, with 46% of private and 41% of public schools reporting 76-99% campus wireless coverage. A third of respondents reported a plan for further expansion.

• Half of the survey’s participants report installing multicast enabled switches, however, less than 10% of schools have deployed IPTV capabilities, with nearly 25% indicating plans to add IPTV capabilities.

“We’ve been fielding many inquiries from our customers regarding IPTV and the impacts of streaming video on bandwidth usage, so felt it was important to add these subjects to this year’s questionnaire,” said Brian Benz, CEO of Campus Televideo. “This year’s results reflect the sentiments we’ve been hearing from both public and private institutions – that external video is driving bandwidth demand, wireless is a priority and schools are seeking IPTV solutions.”

This survey, in its third iteration, was conducted online in January and February of 2011. Responses were collected from 221 higher education IT professionals across the country (60% private, 40% public). The company’s data services group led the research, in conjunction with Dynamic Marketing Solutions, a higher education marketing firm.
